Okay so this post is a perfect example of how everybody on this forum should photograph their firearms when you’re posting to sell. Well done, beautiful piece!

Thanks for getting back to me JedClpIT.

I saved the image of the forcing cone and had a friend make some inquires to some knowledgeable S&W people.
Seems like Smith had some issues with forcing cones on .357 K Frames cracking with the repeated use of 125grn full power loads.
In some cases an actual piece of the forcing cone was blown off. One of the people consulted has seen this before on another Model 65. It is speculated that a chunk came out of the forcing cone and it was dressed out, or a crackwas noticed and ground out to prevent further cracking. So this was more than likely a repair.

This really breaks my heart because a 3" Model 65 has been on my grail list for years.
I was advised to pass on this unless I get it right and wanted to replace the barrel which is really hard now days as
the barrels aren't made anymore, my understanding is S&W is out of NOS.
