      I just checked it. I can get about 3 inches total for "forgiveness. I would say about an inch in either direction ***still for sale***

      Not too sure with regards to shotguns. I mounted it on an SKS directly behind the rear sight leaf and it was perfect with a standard SKS stock. I imagine if you have a long length of pull it would work with a cantilever mount but I cant guarantee it since I dont shoot shotguns much
