That does not surprise me one bit. Makes you wonder if those drugs should even be allowed.

Therapeutic intervention takes a much longer time to modify behaviors(years), compared to using medication in conjunction with therapy where results CAN be noticeable in weeks. The problem is unwanted serious side-effects can occur almost immediately in some cases. There are also tons of people who are given meds by their PCP, who are not monitoring their patients to ensure they are seeing a mental health professional while taking the meds, thus side-effects can manifest into profound behavioral issues that go relatively unmonitored until ... well until they chop up their parents one day.

The bigger theme, if I may point out, is a lack of caregivers and medical pros to monitor behaviors, regardless if the patient is on meds or not. Look at Columbine, how do become so detached that your kids are able to store bombs and assault weapons in their rooms for months and it goes unnoticed?

It's a pickle Sean, no easy answer. The meds pass FDA clinical trials and extensive testing, SEVERE side effects are very rare, the problem is when they occur, the result is usually catastrophic.

I understand Clay and figured you would pop in on this subject.

The detachment from parents and family values I'm sure are problem one. I also know we have a real problem in this country in dealing with mental health issues. I'm not so sure the lack of professional help would be so important if society was simpler and the percentage of kids growing up in a good home was what it used to be.

    Or am I over simplifying?

You're not. That's a huge part of it Sean. Any two idiots can have a kid, and there are a lot of idiots out there.

You need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car - hell, you even need a license to catch a fish. But they'll let any butt-reaming asshole be a father.......
