Not really usefulGood question. But before I blew up a receiver or myself or a bystander based on anecdotal evidence I would call Mossberg and ask them.
You could be more generous when someone is trying to protect you from harm. BTW. A used 12 gauge Mossberg 500 barrel sells for about $350 plus shipping and taxes on eBay. Oh wait, a new complete 12 gauge Mossberg Maverick shotgun sells for about $200. I may be wrong but I would guess Mossberg designed the 12 barrel not fit in a 20 receiver. However, you should follow what your sense tells you.Not really useful
Especially as litigation worried most companies are they gona likely say buy a new 12 gauge.
You didn't miss it. I took it as implied when it was stated that "most companies" were litigation sensitive. And they were more interested in selling entire guns rather than just barrels. This is where monetary comes into it. I've always been a bottom line thinker. In most cases I'm not interested in details. The trouble I run into is I always use my own philosophy and motivation as the measure for the answer to the question. When I do that the question than becomes what's the bottom line? Curiosity didn't enter into it even though the OP said it was in the first post. I ask "what use would that information be to me?" There is so much important stuff (IMO) going on in the world that information to me for curiosity sake is clutter. What came to mind is monetary or clicks. I chose monetary as the answer.I missed the part where the OP asked about being cost effective.
