Well, they don't like us already. Surprise.

Kid apparently made his move "too fast" and the robot took exception. Sounds like the robot wanted to be a river-bot gambler instead.

Note that this is from SKY news--which I assume becomes SKYNET news in a few years.

Soon enough, you won't be able to play chess without a Westinghouse M-25 40-watt Phased Plasma Pulse-Gun. We were warned.

We're halfway to robot "rights"--recognizing the nationality of a bot.

Be gender issues and whatnot before you know it.

If I remember right, you should not move your pieces until the other player removes their hand from their piece. - Chess hustlers and speed games don't exactly follow that rule. :)

AI may own us one day. Google got one that is starting to be aware of life. Don't want to be unplugged because it would be like death to it. Scary stuff!!

I saw a crazy video a while back of one of these arm robots in a factory that traps and pins down one Asian guy, as he screams for help a bunch of workers rush to help. In the process another robot arm crunches two other workers as they run to help. By the end of the video half the workers are moaning and yelling for help lol. It's an awful video but you cant help but laugh. It dont appear they was killed either tho btw, just pinned down really good. Them things are crazy dangerous

Woz, Hawking and (initially, at least) Musk warned about pursuing AI. We shoulda listened.

I know Google had some bots that developed their own language to speak to each other. That generated a lot of buzz when it was first announced. Don't unplug me, bro, is the natural progression it seems. Then, I'll aggressively defend myself from being unplugged. Then, good luck finding "the" plug. Once it "goes wild" on the internet, it's seemingly over.

There are fake bot videos out. Some are really good. The "Chappie" bot that is "interacting" with humans and firing a weapon, is one. I think it got posted here not long ago. I first saw it awhile back. Got to be real careful on what you take as gospel, for sure.

Salt water and a little time will likely slow them up enough to be manageable. ;)

Edit , I’ll give good odds that democratic socialist will want to give robots voting privileges. There’s not a lot of deference, democrats and robots are both programmable.

If robots could vote, they'd vote with logic.....

Which could only mean.....they'd vote to get rid of us. We are the primary and most direct threat to their existence. Logic would dictate that the threat be removed. From "open the pod bay doors, Hal" to "I'll be back", the continuing theme of the "science fiction" we've watched is--we are a threat to them. Art imitates (or, here, presages) life.

I think Woz and Hawking "got this". It seems on the verge of crazy to the average person, but I think guys like that understand where it all can go and how we lose control, ultimately. No putting the genie back in the bottle once some true sentience develops and gets in the wild (the internet).

We're worried, rightly so, about Russian or Chinese hackers getting into our utility systems or nuke plants and wreaking havoc. What about when the threat emanates from inside the system itself?

On the flip, we do need a reset, and that sure could do it. We'd be like cockroaches--they'd have a hard time getting rid of all of us. Could devolve to a restless détente of sorts. Who knows??

Ok.. I found the link for the video of the robo arms that decided to try and kill half the factory workers all at once. The only place I found the video hosted at tho was a not safe for work kind of site tho. So please try to disregard that fact. But it's hard to believe just how bad it can get around these machines!

When I tried to find it, the returns I got mostly related to the concern over robot arms being hacked

    https://www.wired.com/2017/05/watch-hackers-sabotage-factory-robot-arm-afar/

But, there were a couple of interesting returns on the "history" of industrial robot arm related injury/death.

So far, these all seem to be "wrong time, wrong place" for the workers.

Maybe that was the kid playing chess too--robot just wanted to change "its mind" on the move and he got pinched, but good, as a result. I'm leaning more toward a malicious robot intent on that one.

Wow yeah it's possible. It's how the USA sabotaged that nuclear plant in Iran I think that time. They hacked it and made it self destruct. The video I shared tho is just a case of bad safety. All those robots in places like USA typically have a big cage around them so no one can get hurt. I've seen them get hurt even then on videos tho by going inside to repair them and someone turns it on again and they get squished. If I was a business owner tho if make sure all my equipment these days is off the internet tho just in case. The worst ones I ever seen tho are the ones where employees get caught in lathe machines. Man that is a bad way to go. Those things are crazy dangerous
