If Congress is as stupid as these idiots on the Colorado House Judiciary Committee, we're in trouble for sure. They just spent 15 minutes trying to figure out what the difference in a 'tubular feeding device strictly for use with .22 Rimfire ammunition' and a 'magazine' was. Before that some thought 30 rounds was too much, and some though 10 was not enough. So guess what? Now they have changed it to 15 rounds just to keep the whole panel happy. They also changed shotgun capacity from 5 to 8 shells.

Earlier today, the same committee passed a bill requiring background checks for private gun sales and transfers.

These people are making laws about things they know nothing about. It’s like hiring a mechanic that doesn’t know the difference between a nut and a bolt or what a wrench is for. They completely ignored the 6 hours of testimony against it, and passed it 7 – 4. Unbelievable!

So now I guess Magpul will be retooling for 15 round mags, or leaving the state.

If magpull just uses a "taller" follower: no problem. Lol

You should have heard the conversation about modified magazines. These people have no clue! It was like watching a bunch of clowns, or Abbott and Costello doing their routine.

This was just the Committee and not the House, so it's not law yet. Magpul is not giving up yet (they're posting on Facebook now).

If I understood it correctly, the bill if it becomes law, would even prohibit manufacture in the state. That was part of the Republicans (against it) argument...the Bill is like saying 'went want your revenue and the 700 jobs you provide, but we don't want your products'.

This was the committee so it still has to go to the full house and then the Governor has to sign it? I don't don't think it'll happen, but there is crazy sh...stuff going on all over our new socialist utopia.

Plastic injection molding production workers are a dime a dozen... They could relocate and rehire to be back in business quickly without dragging semi-skilled employees with them. I'm sure Texas would love to become their new home state!

If the law passes and is signed off then Magpul outta flip Colorado the bird and move. I'm sorry for the workers that will lose their job but I'm sure some of them voted for the clowns that are now crafting the legislation. Send the state a signal that they are hostile to business - unless it meets "their" ideal.

Let Colorado do the same with Coors, I'm sure since their beer caused drunken drivers all over the country to cause carnage on the highways they should legislate againg producing that in Colorado too. Write laws to prevent skiers and snowboarders from hurting themselves on the slopes by closing down the ski slopes. Right on Colorado!

Also, The New Jersey Assembly is set to hear 25 extremely restrictive gun control bills today. The bills include limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds, banning most types of rifle ammunition, requiring ammunition sales to occur in registered and face-to-face transactions, banning any rifle .50 cal or above as well as any rifle-barreled shotgun (slug gun), and many more. Let's hope these laws don't pass, setting a precedent for other states to follow.

I've been following this most of the day. Magpul is taking a stand and has delivered the message to to the Governor of Colorado. The following is from their Facebook page:

13 hours ago - Magpul makes the news...
Colo. company could be forced to move if lawmakers restrict gun magazines
    http://kdvr.com/2013/02/13/colorado...ced-to-move-lawmakers-restrict-gun-magazines/

4 hours ago - "Leadership team is at the Capitol again today, holding the line. Regardless of a manufacturing exemption or not, if HB1224 passes, we have to go. We can't disappoint our customers nor ignore our convictions. Anyone who votes in favor of this bill votes to drive over 600 jobs out of CO. We'll have some contact information for some further assistance coming up soon."

28 minutes ago - "We have now met with CO Governor John Hickenlooper's administration. Message delivered: If House Bill 1224 passes and becomes law, regardless of exemptions or amendments, we will be forced to leave CO, along with our jobs and our tax dollars. Keep up the pressure! Even if you only vacation in CO, let the Governor know that CO will lose your tourism dollars!"

It looks like Magpu will be leaving Colorado...

High-capacity ammo bill, passes voice vote in Colorado House

After about 6 hours of debate, members of the Colorado House on Friday afternoon gave preliminary approval of a bill banning high-capacity ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds...

Republicans could force a roll call vote later today on the bill, otherwise a final House vote will be taken on Monday. Democrats control the House 37-28, though not all party members were on board with passing a measure to ban high-capacity ammunition magazines...

"Is there any study out there that shows a ban on high-capacity magazines prevent shootings or save lives?" questioned Waller. "I don't think there is ... in fact, there isn't."

"We're going to pass this legislation for no other reason — none, zero — than to feel good," Waller said...

Manufacturers would still be able to produce these magazines within the state, supporters say.

"We will leave if it passes," said Doug Smith, Magpul's Chief Operating Officer said Thursday. Smith has said that no amendment to the measure would keep the company here in Colorado...

    From Magpuls's Facebook page...

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
MAGPUL INDUSTRIES ANNOUNCES IT WILL LEAVE COLORADO IF GUN BILL PASSES

MOVE WOULD COST STATE 600 JOBS, $85 MILLION

Denver, Colorado – February 15th, 2013 - Magpul Industries, an Erie, Colorado, based manufacturer of firearms accessories, announced today that it will be forced to leave the state if House Bill 1224, which would ban standard capacity magazines, becomes law. The announcement was made to Governor Hickenlooper, state legislators, members of the media, and in a full-page advertisement to appear in the Denver Post on Sunday.

Richard Fitzpatrick, Founder, President, and CEO of Magpul Industries, said that regardless of any amendments that may be worked into the bill, he will no longer be able to continue to do business in Colorado if his core product is made illegal.

“Our company could not, in good conscience, continue to manufacture our products in a state where law-abiding citizens are prohibited from purchasing and owning them. ” Fitzpatrick said. “The passage of this bill will do nothing to enhance public safety, but will force us to immediately begin taking our business to another state.”

A proponent of the bill argued that with the amendment language, the choice to stay or leave was up to Magpul. Fitzpatrick responded, "Our relationship with our customers across the country would be severely damaged if this bill passes and we stay. We've already heard word of potential boycotts if that happens. They (legislators) really need to understand that our customer base is as passionate about freedoms as we are, and staying here if this bill passes would cripple the company. Make no doubt about it...we have no choice, and would be forced to leave in order to save the business."

Magpul cited the example of the Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show, which was canceled earlier this year after the organizers announced that it would not permit a popular category of firearm, like the ones Magpul makes accessories for, in the show. Public outcry from the customer base forced exhibitors to withdraw from participation, causing the cancellation of the show, and an estimated loss of $70 million of show revenue for hotels, restaurants, merchants, and other businesses in Pennsylvania, where the show was to be held.

Magpul Industries directly employs 200 people, supports another 400 supply-chain jobs, and contributes over $85 million annually to Colorado’s economy. Doug Smith, Chief Operating Officer for Magpul, says that it is a difficult position to be in. "We could choose to stay in a state that wants our jobs and revenue, but not our products, and lose half the jobs we are fighting to save, or potentially the entire business, when our customers stop buying. Or, we can take the company and those 600 jobs out of Colorado to continue our growth and the growth of American manufacturing in a state that shares our values. This is not really a choice. It's an unfortunate and inevitable result of the actions of the Legislature if this bill passes."

Magpul was started over a decade ago by Fitzpatrick, a former U.S. Marine. It has become one of Colorado’s fastest growing businesses, successfully marketing its products to American and allied military forces, police departments, sporting goods stores, and thousands of responsible private citizens. Fitzpatrick says that the rich western culture and strong values of individual freedom and responsibility, traditionally found in Colorado, were one of the reasons the company chose to remain in the state.

“It is heartbreaking to me, my employees, and their families, to think that we will be forced to leave,” Fitzpatrick said. “But if HB13-1224 passes, we will simply have no choice.”

Magpul would be a great addition to the local area. The Governor of Florida needs to send them an invite!
