    How long has it been since anyone seen one of them , caught one in my front yard this morn. I know they sting very bad !!! They are actually a beautiful insect, the color is a warning !!!!

    I saw one a ERGC several months back. Hadn't seen one in years before that.

    Also known as cow-killer ants, velvet ants, velvet wasps. I believe they are in the wasp family.

    I see 2 - 3 a year around here. If you crush them slowly they make a squealing sound.

    Not uncommon see em in th pasture or edge of the pine. they do hurt.

    I've only seen a couple around my home in Baker,Fl. but I see 3 or 4 year on my property in Milligan just 5 miles down the road. Baker place is clay with sandstone while the Milligan land is a sandy soil and I still call'em cow killers

    they are form of wasp, the female...like a poster said, called cow killers (bad sting, don't really have the venom to kill a cow.i give them space, they are cool...

    actually saw some pic of folks after stung by these critters wow !!!! Not good, but not as bad as that brown recluse that got me !!!
