AHA!Oh and just so you know, I';ve not been a victim about 3 times in about 30 years because I was concealed carrying.
Don't care...MEMPHIS, TN – In two separate incidents, two men who were open carrying had their guns stolen out of their open carry holsters while standing in line at a store.
On December 22, just days before Christmas, a thief snatched an open carried gun right off a person's hip in a North Carolina Walmart
On Open Carry: Detroit Citizen has Pistol Stolen Right out of His Holster
According to the local news report, the criminal who stole the handgun simply walked up behind the victim and snatched the pistol right out of his holster.
Just a quick search, now who's going to be the victim, I support Open Carry, just wouldn't do it for general carry.
I cannot tell you how many times I was shopping and see people who open carry and they are just oblivious to whats going on
around them. Many a time got close enough to ID the gun, Id if it was retention holster and could have grabbed the weapon.
Personally, if you are going to open carry, please invest in a really good retention holster.

Sure hope you were being sarcastic.
I support Open Carry, was just disputing CCW carries being victims.Don't care...
I'm not debating what's better.
I'm fighting for a civil right. People have the right to CHOOSE.
Sometimes open carry is better in some situations while concealed is better in others.
Florida makes it a crime if your gun is visible.
Screw that. Screw gun control.
Well, here's the thing, I'm not a criminal but is I was, and I wanted your money or your gun or both, I just shoot you and takeAHA!
Assuming you mean "I had to draw", might it have not gone that far if you were carrying openly? i.e., you stopped something by "unconcealing" your weapon... what if was "unconcealed" all along?
Yes, but criminals "just shoot and take" money, purses, watches, cars, phones, etc., etc. from people who appear to be unarmed every day. I have no doubt that >99% of violent crime victims appear to be unarmed when they are attacked. Not sure how having a visible firearm can make your chances any worse, unless 100% of open carriers were being robbed and killed every time they went out in public.Well, here's the thing, I'm not a criminal but is I was, and I wanted your money or your gun or both, I just shoot you and take
it if you were open carrying, I'd never give you a chance.
I'm not debating OC here, I do support it and it has its place but don't put CC people down as automatic victims.
There was 1 instance long before I moved here. I was in tempe arizona pulled into a circle k to get my daily caffeine. I worked night shift. I was open carrying in uniform. There was 4 not so friendly looking people in there loitering by the counter. I walked over to the drinks, filled my cup with coke and went up to the counter. I noticed on the t.v screen by the door 3 of the guys were spreading out behind me and one comes up and asks what kind of gun it was. I quickly recognized the situation and immediately walked out ready for a fight. They did not follow me. I waited by my vehicle for them to come out and the guy that was asking about my gun smiled and winked at me. After they left I went back in for my coke and hurried to work. By then I was late. If your open carrying it doesn't deter everything. Probably 80 to 90% is deterrence and the 10 to 20% is pay the hell attention to your surroundings. Had I been oblivious, I could have been jacked and potentially shot with my own weapon. I've been attacked, spit on, shot at, countless weapons of various kinds pulled on me. I've never killed or shot anyone and I don't plan to. It's all where your mindset is. But most of all. Rule number 1. Be aware of everything around you at all times. And for the love of God, train with your desired carry gun. Too many people just go buy something and carry it around with them thinking they are untouchable. That's how innocent people die.Yes, but criminals "just shoot and take" money, purses, watches, cars, phones, etc., etc. from people who appear to be unarmed every day. By that logic, hell, even carrying concealed, once a threat arises and you pull your gun out, you have just made yourself a target anyway. Like the concealed carrier who saw a shooter in a store, pulled his firearm out and started following him, then was shot and killed by the shooter's girlfriend who was following about 50 feet behind him! If being "shot first" is what you're worried about, it doesn't matter how you carried it beforehand once you have to pull it out.
I'd much rather deter a perp via a gun carried openly on the hip (non-threatening) than to have to draw from concealment (threatening) to do the same, since the other party may then plausibly be able to claim they were defending themselves from you.
Ever hear about all the millions(?) of times every year armed people deter criminals without firing a shot? Yep... that is done by "letting them know you're armed", which open carry does automatically, without requiring you to "brandish". Speaking of which:
I never said "CC people are automatic victims"; I was pointing out that when you said "I';ve not been a victim about 3 times in about 30 years because I was concealed carrying.", I took that to mean that you had to show a criminal that you were armed in order to deter them. Why not save a step and just carry openly if making it obvious that you were armed is all it took to adjust their attitude?
Here's my idea: If an area is so dangerous that it's unsafe to carry openly there... I'll do my best to stay the hell away from it!
BINGO... and that applies whether you are carrying openly or concealed.Rule number 1. Be aware of everything around you at all times.
Anyone who really wants to "get some" needs to stay away from dignitary protection. The only people who get less action than them are Air Marshals! I've done some dignitary protection, and it is soul-crushingly boring.escorted/secured by "security" motivated by pay, benefits, and the desire/opportunity to "get some,"
I did it for three years. It ends in stomach ulcers and divorces.Anyone who really wants to "get some" needs to stay away from dignitary protection. The only people who get less action than them are Air Marshals! I've done some dignitary protection, and it is soul-crushingly boring.
And sleep issues, trouble controlling your anger. Panic attacks ect.I did it for three years. It ends in stomach ulcers and divorces.
Sounds alot like working on a ship. And sleep issues, trouble controlling your anger. Panic attacks ect.
Hence the phrase "drunk as a sailor"Sounds alot like working on a ship.
You have no personal schedule. Working protective operations means your entire reference of time revolves around the person you're assigned to and their schedule. It is boredom and stress all rolled into one. It destroys marriages.Sounds alot like working on a ship.
In recent years/decades, I have yet to see/encounter any "dignitary" worthy of my protection, regardless of pay/benefits.
