Look at the bump-up years. This debt is due to the Cold War military arms race, the resulting power vacuum in the Middle East when the USSR imploded, and then 9/11 and the GWOT. All of which was avoidable and/or an inside job.

Yeah, there's a power vaccuum in the middle east, and africa, because europe effed it up beyond repair, then abandoned all of it to run home and "fight" the huns, which they couldn't, so demanded our help, and now WE are responsible. Wait. What?!
Yeah. Really. Look it up. Why we need to jetison the EU at the earliest (like 40 years ago) opportunity.
