So my Father in Law passed away and left several guns that I'm just not interested in. I'm more of a practical guy and not into guns for show. I dont really have a lot of knowledge about what they're worth. Looking for suggestions on how to go about selling/trading them without getting ripped off. I want to add to my own collection of hunting /home defense stuff. Any suggestions?

    Sorry for the loss.

In no particular order to determine value:
-Internet search. Auction sights with actual sales (not outrageous pricing that won't ever sell) of similar models/condition.
    -Gun Blue book.
-Ask someone you(or a friend) trusts. Get at least a couple of opinions on value.

    To sell:
-Depends on what you've got. Local market isn't great for sellers.
-Shops will consign but not sure what the current standard cut is.
-Sell on the auction sites but you'll have to figure out shipping/fees etc.

    Good luck.

In my opinion, the completed auctions on Gunbroker are the best guide to a gun’s value. You won’t get that around here but it gives you an idea what you could get if you want to jump thru the hoops.
You just hafta decide how much jumping thru the hoops is worth to you.

That is exactly what I use , judging exactly what has sold up to date .

After you’ve determined what you think is a fair asking price, I’d still recommend to list them locally on here. Only costs time to do the photos and write the sale ad. You will need both of those things (pics and description) for whatever other selling venue you’d use, so not really time wasted.

However, on the forum here, you can put a list of trades you’re looking for. Also, you and the buyer would save on shipping and probably FFL fees.

You can always pull the sale ad here and post it for sale somewhere else.

Don’t post a phone number in your sale ad, unless you want scammers calling you.

Edit to add: also sorry for your loss. If your father-in-law was into firearms and left them to you, then count your blessings and remember that he probably did not want you saddled with a ton of extra stress. If it becomes too much of a headache, a new gun safe is only a few hundred bucks, and you can decide what to do with the new additions over time later.
