My favorite one is a model 43 Winchester, but I like the Ruger 77/ hornet almost as much. The ones that are somewhat available would be ruger, CZ 527, and savage.

This is the one I like...Ruger 77/22 hornet stainless varmint, 24" barrel. It shoots well under MOA.....been quite a few years since I've shot it. The only rifle I own that I've not handloaded for, I have everything, just never got around to it.

Hope you find one to try.

It's early Mullet but when the wife gets up moving around I have a Ruger 77/22 Hornet Collectors Edition "medallion in the stock" with scope I'll post pics of. Last time I shot it 4 or 5 years ago I shot a nickel at 100 yards using Hornaday green tips. It is a beautiful rifle. You got me thinking that I have not shot it in so long I might be willing to part with. It just sits in the back of the safe, it's got a very nice leather strap also.

Plenty of old timers have used the ‘ol Hornet for decades to harvest truck loads of deer. It’s also a favorite of poachers.
I like the Sierra 45 gr bullet in mine (may be discontinued now).

    For poaching?

I had one of the Ruger M77/22 Hornets while I was stationed in Kodiak, AK. I used to fox hunt with it. I had no trouble at all blistering a fox at 200 yards with it. Crazy accurate and like has already been mentioned, much more quiet than any other centerfire. I sold that rifle because I had a couple contender barrels in Hornet and didn’t figure I would ever need it again. I have been kicking myself ever since.

Serial# puts it as made in 2002. I'd say it's a 8 out of 10. Possibly 8.5, The Prostaff was spot on at 100 yards. This is a shoot the deer between the eyes gun if your a good shot. I'll be leaving in 1.5 hours to go up to that old Santa Rosa deer farm at 89 and 178 to shoot some different rifles today. I know you live in the country, just not sure where but I can throw it in the truck and you can come shoot it if you want? Just let me know 850 Five Five 4 08 Three Five, Mike.

Well, I got to stop at my property in Jay first and drop my tractor off so I'll be there for 30 minutes, then to Allentown.

I'm not really looking to sell so I never gave it any thought. I know that sounds dumb. Jeremey read the post late but turns out he live about 3 miles from me. He swung by and I gave him the gun and 2 boxes of shells, told him to take it and shoot it for a week and tell me what it's worth. Him and I know so many of the same people it's amazing we have not met each other. My nephew is PPD like he was at one time. Either way, he is a great guy.

Now that warms my heart. Back when you shook a man’s hand, looked him in the eye and could count on his word. Hope y’all make a great deal, that is one beautiful looking rifle

Thanks CCC, Jeremey came over looking to buy a rifle but instead got a rifle and 2 boxes of pricey shells to go have fun with and make sure he likes it. His said he birthday was in a day or 2 so I told him happy birthday, the ammo was on me!

Jeremey has always been a great guy to deal with, and very fair. I am certain your rifle has found a new home, and you a new friend. There's no way he will let that beauty pass.
If so desired, I have 500 rds of vintage surplus .22 Hornet ammo I will sell or trade for.

This is my favorite 22 hornet with a matching 22 long rifle.(Anschutz)

You can't compare a 22 hornet With other calibers there's plenty of things that are more efficient and cheaper. You buy a 22 hornet because you love them. If you have never played with the 22 hornet I suggest that you do not for if you do you Well get Stung too.
