    From my perspective the size of the holes in the cylinder was why I thought something was off.
    Your "perspective" is at an angle at the back a the cylinder where the rim is recessed into the cylinder. 22 LR heads spaces on the rim. . . .so the rim must be larger than the projectile. BTW the rim is the equivalent of .27 caliber. In addition, S&W roll marks the barrel on the right side 22 LR. google it. GLWS Danny.

    Only magnum & rimfire calibers were recessed . Just as barrels used to be pinned to prevent unscrewing . The old term " pinned & recessed " or p & r .
