When we have an event at the R/C club field I always find several kids to take down and fold the flag. They really express interest in learning how to properly fold the banner.

    Viking, you misunderstand.
I wasn't refereeing to funerals and retirements. I said handled, not handed.
I was talking about the ignorance on how to treat, raise, lower and handle a flag. Things I learned in high school, while my peers were wearing Stars and Stripes boxer shorts. I, in fact, am sharing in wild rides frustration, and I'll go so far to say that for most people, the flag is only considered on a handful of federal holidays.

I take for granted that former and current service men understand the reverence and respect our flag demands.

Reverence for the flag, proper handling, folding, basic do's and don't's and such were taught to me in the Cub Scouts, later Boy Scouts. I've folded at funerals, civic events and treat the one at my home the way I would if I were in the military. When my wife's father's flag and display box went underwater during Ivan I had everything done or did myself to restore that flag to original condition including building a new display case.

Maxman back when I went to school we were taught patriotism and respect for our flag. I think that is part of what's missing with today's education, we're too worried about what offends a small minority versus teaching our kids what a patriot is. Now a days unless one enters the military I think patriotism is something only parents can teach their kids, no longer can we trust the schools to do it. Just check out this Watters World 4th of July Quiz edition and you'll see what I mean. Notice how much better the older guy does than the young people.

There seems to be an unusually high number of gnomes being posted on facebook. Does anyone here know anything about it? hmmm!

No idea. Can't help you there. I'm guessing someone brought it on themselves by actually creating a FB account. Finally.

    It's a harsh, brutal environment.

Well, Belle was going to attempt to subdue and hold the gnome for the authorities but seeing that she and it were the same height and weight she had to take the shot.

I wonder what ever happened to Ole Carver? I used to enjoy reading his posts he seemed like a really nice guy. Not sure why I thought of him today.
