    I'm in Pensacola

    PM

    $3500

    No trades ...

    Winchester model 73s

    One is a 44 and one is a 32-20

I don't know much about these except the guy I bought them from said they came from an estate sale in Texas.

The 44 needs an ajustment on the lever action as it will fire if your too quick with it, been that way ever since I've had it.

They both need to be cleaned up by some one who knows what they are doing.

One of the stocks has a quarter silver moon in it.

Please don't tell me they have been nickle plated as I already know that... (Big Ole Smile)

I also know what they say about the value when they are plated.

Like I said I don't know much about them.

I have had some so called "experts" give me an idea of what they are worth so there you have it.

These have some numbers on them but are hard to read.

Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Please only Pm Me if you are interested in buying them.

    Thanks for looking.

I hope those experts knew they were 73s

Beautiful rifles, somebody spent some bucks on those restos. Can you post some more close ups. How do the markings look after they were refinished?

    76251,

They are 1873 and on one it is clearly marked but the other the markings did not turn out as well.

I have no confidence in the so called "experts" as they all came up with diffrent prices and discriptions.LOL!

My pictures do not do them justice.

I have lots of pictures of them as when I decided to put them on here.

If someone can tell me how to put more on here I will but when I started the thread I was only allowed 5 ??

The last one that looked at them told me what he thought they were worth...

And on his notes he wrote down Whinchester 1887 with an approxmate price he thought each were worth.

The one rifle is CLEARLY marked 1873 on it why he would have written 1887 is beyond me.

It would seem that the Texas rancher bought them around the same time as at arms length they both look identical except for the bores (cal).

Thanks for your input and if you have any more information on price or condition please feel free to let me know.
It was not a certified appraisal if that is what they are called.

Didn't feel like paying big bucks for one...

P.S. My feelings are I have had these for years and had lots of positive and negitive things said about them so whats your feelings?

I bought this sawed off 73 in 38-40 recently. Sadly it has been cut to 16 inches and mag tube cut down too for whatever reason. Maybe it was supposed to be a clone of the super rare short rifle made with 14-16 inch barrels. Still in good mechanical condition with a nice bore and pretty nice wood for the age, all unrestored but hacked. Would be nice to find a few rounds and try them out.

I'm sure there is a story behind your rifle.

    Good picture too.

    Thanks for posting it.

Can you still shoot the old guns like yours and mine ?

There is a reason I asked cause there is a story behind mine that I was told when I bought them.

It's Kind of long but don't know if I should post it here ?

Now it took me a bit to figure out I had to go advanced to post more pictures.

    So here are some more.

    Thanks,

    Ok !

Here is what I came up with on the numbers on the 32-20 rifle.

    It looks like 25029 (1) or (7) (R) or (P).

    On the 44-40 25050(7) or (1) (P) or (R).

Some of the numbers are hard to make out .

    The 32-20 has W.C. F. on it

On the 44-40 has C. F. the rest is gone

Beautiful rifles !!!! They need to live together.

Last century I lucked upon a lady that "Had some old guns, been in the back closet for 50 years and wanted them out of the house, preferably destroyed". Of the 5 guns 2 of them were 73s, 1 a saddle ring carbine in 44/40. I ended up paying $150 for the 5 guns, another being a Remington model 10 shotgun.

I sold or traded off all the guns for around a grand and a near mint Inland Carbine. Considering she wanted them destroyed I have no guilt.

Rick, it amazes me what buzzes around in some people's heads. The 73s are historical heirlooms and some kook wants them destroyed. What a crock.
