No sir, this place most CERTAINLY isn't turning into PFF! The Bikini thread had to be removed due to senseless pressure put on the owners/moderators by Google Ads. Ian was sent a warning email from GA telling him they would cancel the contract if "offensive" material was not removed and no further postings along those lines were made" or words to that effect. Ian was strong armed into deleting that thread.


You see, it's OK for Google to advertise what they consider "porn" as long as it's on their terms. They probably can't figure out a way to garner extra revenues off of a particularly hot topic like that. I seriously doubt it has to do with offending anyone's prurient sensitivities at Google. You can Google "Hot babes" or such and they'll provide you with images that made the photos we posted on here look like they were taken at a church picnic.

This is what happens when you invite people to the party and want them to contribute some money. They think they have a say in how things are run. Only way to have an exclusive party with your own rules is to not invite those folks in and to pay for it yourself. If that anology makes sense?????

Adios boys. Frank, really? This is about management having a forum the members like and participate in, but in order to make a few cents from Google (a commie Obamao supporting group) they are curtailing our ability to have a little fun. I don't use google and now I won't use GCGF because they up making a few pennies ahead of their members. Our country is being taken over by lefties because people just cave in to this politically correct bullshit. And here it appears just to make a buck. There was another thread recently about losing your rights and this plays right into it. I won't support anyone or any group that supports google and the assault on freedom.

Makes perfect sense.

Problem is this site HAS to generate revenue or it's not viable. I mean, we all love guns, hunting, etc. and really appreciate having this forum but if someone is spending hours of time to moderate and maintain it there has to be compensation somewhere. Who's gonna pay for the domain? It's one of life's realities.

Certainly the owners and moderators of this site are not to blame. Don't know if there are options other than GA but at the same time, the Bikini thread was a fun, entertaining diversion, it's not THE reason for GCGF.

Frank is right. If the babes was the only reason you're on here then maybe you do need to move on. Nothing personal but there are thousands of sites to get your skin kicks.

I don't know you Doomsday but if your attitude is such then you don't need us and we sure don't need you.

You shoot yourself in the foot on this one. On the one hand you rail about Obama bots (I agree) but on the other hand do you expect your entertainment to be provided free? can't have it both ways.

I'm sure that the powers that be here on GCGF have looked into alternate ad/revenue providers. The fact that they are with GA I can assure you has nothing to do with common beliefs, it has to do with best OA benefits vs. what's available out there. There may well come a time when an alternate ad provider with better guidelines comes along but until then you have to work with what you have.

With Google's censorship policies as related to firearms I am surprised they are an advertiser on the site at all. Regardless of your views on that thread or another censorship is censorship. The issue for me is what will they tell you you cannot do next?

Those few "pennies" are what keeps this site up and running. I guess we could have Ian set up an account so we can all chip in and pay the maintenance costs if you'd prefer. I see the site shut down in a couple months with that happening.

Ian also put a post on the issue. There was a lot of feedback from Members. All responses that I read dumped on Google for the policy but said they "Members" would rather have the GCGF continue without the Bikini thread rather then have a financial or other impact to the Forum.

I would have no problem dumping a $20 in an envelope to Ian if needed to support the site. I do not need formal accounting and dues crap either. Anyone who has been on this Forum for a while knows the integrity of those at the helm.

I am not sure how the google thing works & this may be way off base but it would not surprise me if someone was offended by the Bikini thread & complained.

A small membership fee would be fine with me. One could ask for more local sponsors as well. If we had ether of these we might could get more group buys but I digress.. NOT that I am complaining about the sight or the administrators. No matter what the site owners do there will always people who do not like it. Some bitch(me), some leave, some act like they are going to leave.

I really hate to even be posting this, but it is what it is, hopefully I can figure out some kind of work-around to keep the thread going, I know a lot of members (including myself) really enjoy it .

I am sorry that you don't like it, but I am not going to ask anyone for money to run the site, and it ain't free. Up until that email the google adsense program had worked well for me, I don't like it, but at the same time I am already putting a lot of effort into the site without adding a monetary drain to the cards.

I had posted that I was going to try to research a workaround in order to let the forum retain the bikini thread, but the overwhelming response that I received was to the tune of "we don't need it" so I didn't follow through with that.

Not a surprise. I had rather have the forum than the bikini pics.

I didn't come here to look at porn............but good extra. All good things must end someday.

I personally don't think this thread qualifies for "SFW." Most of the pictures are a little too risqué for viewing at work, IMO.

That being said, I enjoyed the thread but I would rather keep the entire forum than risking it in order to keep this one particular thread.

I think it is really really cool you posted this. You are not the only one with the problem, it is all of us who use and enjoy this forum.... That said you could have just yanked the thread and let folks suck it up.

Dump this thread and save the forum! I really like this forum......I almost feel like I fit in somewhere.

Well, I certainly enjoy the thread... However, I do feel sure I can survive without it if it helps the forum!

If I had received drastically different responses I'd have delved further into it and tried to figure out what to do about the issue, I didn't though, so I just let it rest.

I have since learned that simply closing forums to the public should solve the issue, but since I have "become PFF" I doubt that you will be around to read this. I try really hard to run a forum that people can enjoy, but it sure is hard to satisfy everyone.

With all that being said, the forum will remain ad supported, I won't take donations, I won't sell subscriptions, and if that takes my figuring out how to manage certain aspects of the forum to work around google's anti gun / anti T&A agenda then so be it. But I did ask the members what they thought, since this isn't mine, as much as it is OURS.
