Don't own a .270 but have used a .243 and a .308, always used factory loaded Remington Core-Lokt, not sure its made anymore since
    Remington went under.

Never had a problem with it, the deer never went more than a few yards if I did my part, not sure it really makes a difference as
long as you use good modern designed ammunition.

If I was going to shoot a 270 I would shoot Hornady American Whitetail, it's available in 130 grain and 140 grain and cost just over $20. This is actually Hornady's old custom ammo they just changed the packaging. I shoot it in my 7mm, my oldest son shoots it in 7mm, 270, and 308 and my youngest son shoots it in 350 legend and 6.5 Creedmoor. I shoot it in several other calibers also it shoots under 1 inch groups in every gun we have shot it in and it has very good performance on deer in the above calibers.

My wife and both shoot Coreloks in our 270 and 308. Both deer had to be tracked with little or no blood trail 100 yards away. Small exit wounds. Maybe it’s just us, but I accuse my wife of shooting blood less bullets. I want to try something else.

Try the hornady black in the 308. Jacket busts and gets caught in hide on exit side, looks like a gernade went off in em.

I prefer a 140gr in the 270, and I handload my own. Nothing wrong with any factory loaded 130gr 270. Off the shelf, I’d probably opt for Winchester Power Points, and wouldn’t pass on a 150gr load. No need for a bonded bullet or copper bullet for our southern whitetail deer, IMO.

My M70 270 rifles simply like the Winchester 150 power points.
It's available most places and relatively inexpensive.
Both rifles will shoot it to 1" at 100 yards.
One shot and have never lost a deer - 1/2 time DRT.
Always complete pass-thru, even chest out the flank.
Double shoulder you get a mess-up off should but that shot is DRT.
Can't ask for much more from an inexpensive factory ammo.

My long rang shooting buddy's hate them but Core Lock is still the deadliest mushroom in the woods for hunting.

I usually buy three major brands of hunting ammo and shoot for accuracy at the range off a bench. Every gun seems to like different ammunition. Take into consideration distance you will be hunting, weight of the animal, and how difficult it is to drag something wounded back to a road for pickup. Accuracy is way more important than expansion. With that typed for 100 yards shots I would include Core Lokt as one of my three.

for me the difference in knock down and blood trail is shot placement. Either of the 2 choices you gave could do either of those things. I would choose the one of them that shot better in my rifle.

.270 Win I believe was designed around a 130 gr bullet from anything I have read. Often 140s seem to work well and FB 150s with some success. 1 of mine shoots 130s the best the other 2 seem to like 140s. None of them like 150s. I mostly shoot hand loads but there are a couple boxes of Federal Premium 130 w/GameKings and a box of 140 Core Lokt Ultra on the shelf.

I buy Core Lokts to shoot and recover the brass...I like to reload R-P or Winchester brass best for some reason

My CZ 557 has a strong preference for S&B 270. I've patterned the rifle with that basic 150 grain soft point at 0.54" at 100 yards.

interesting horizontal stringing you have there
Probably means that I was the problem and that gun and ammo are capable of more accuracy. My neck is completely fused, and the scope I have on that rifle has an unforgiving eye box. Parallax issues can cause that horizontal shift if my eye is out of alignment. I've been meaning to replace it with something more suitable for me.

    :)

check weld, not pulling straight back on the trigger, parallax maybe or pinch point on the stock. That is a .25 rifle all day with cool downs. All of that assuming the first 2 shots were on the vertical line
