TP, they cannot be in the swamps now, have to be flooded out, we normally see more out during times like this. Shorter distance back to the water too.

You certainly should have better deer than we do up there and probably as many hogs which may be fatter! below IH10 we are in timber only land, not much farming and rich soil.

With this rain, look for hog sign where you never saw it before. I am seeing rooting at my club along the sides of the main roadway. With the water puddles, and wet grass and foliage to keep them cool they will not have to stay in a certain area of moisture.

Look at the cedar/juniper,cypress swamps like this......hogs don't live in water, they don't like to spend the entire day in water, they WILL find high ground in the middle of all that water in the form of an island.....however small. A small patch of high ground in the middle of acres of water is great for the hogs. Nothing can approach them without them hearing it. Also, during these periods of rain they will stay/live in the pine barrens. Taller planted pines with a thick mat of wet pine straw will insulate them from both the heat and the cold. I have seen them get up, walk over 5 feet, and lay back down. They have to continuously regulate their body temp without sweat.

Remember also, the hogs don't mind the rain at all...just as long as the wind is not blowing very hard. The more moisture in the air,the better their nose works. They love it.

Got these two big ones coming in pretty regular now. Put out some rotten coolaid soaked corn and they seem to like it.

How about the mineral lick are they working it also? :painkiller:

They rolled it out of the way and made a big rooting hole where it's been sitting.

dig a 3' hole with post hole diggers and fill it with corn and kool aid. That will keep them busy until every kernel is gone. When they are done you will have a pond.

When you say kool aid, you mean straight out of the package and on the corn or do you mix the kool aid up with sugar & water and then pour it on the corn in the hole?

Do you use any syrup that they put in animal feed and if so, where can you buy the stuff?

    Thanks

I make up two gallons of regular coolaid, just like you would drink it with sugar etc... Pour those two gallons in a 5 gallon bucket filled with corn. The corn will soak up all the coolaid and rot in about 1-1.5 weeks. I threw in a little grape jelly into the mix to make it that much more irresistible. Seems to have brought these two big ones in on a more regular schedule now.

I put the dry corn in the bucket, the koolaid powder with a 1lb bag of sugar, yeast a beer and add water, stir, cover and let it sour in the corn.

You can get the cheap snow cone syrup by the gallon and it works just fine. Anything wet and sweet works. I imagine Frank's yeast helps too. The beer makes them not so spooky.
