My gripe is not with the healthcare providers at the facility. The problem clearly shows the problem lies at the administrative level at that particular VA facility!

I have a good friend who was wounded by an IED in Iraq who moved from Baldwin County to MS. so that he could have access the care he deserves! According to him and others I have spoke to the VA Facility in Biloxi is fantastic with no shortage of staff unlike the Pensacola VA.

No argument. Again the short staff is because several doctors up and quit because they were tired of all the damn red tape paper work. These doctors can make a ton more money in the private sector, so either you have to increase their pay, or decrease their work load or both, or this will continue to be an issue.

Oddly when staff quit/resign at Pensacola VA there are no job openings shown on the VA jobs website at that facility? Hmmm...

As bad as the VA is now it use to be a lot worse. In the 70’s and early 80’s I took a couple of WW 2 vets to the nearest VA hospitals in Montgomery and Tuskegee when they needed a ride. Thankfully there are clinics and hospitals that are closer now. Now they need staff to handle the red tape so that the Veterans get the attention they deserve.

I just went back through this thread. My father is in ICU. Vietnam vet. Looks like he starved himself to the point of falling in his apartment. I spoke with him Friday night and he never told me that he was on the ground. We brought him lunch yesterday since he said he was feeling bad and wouldn't be coming over to watch football. Had to call an ambulance. He was in organ failure. He finally had a meeting with his back surgeon a few weeks ago. The surgeon blew him off and said lose weight before surgery. My Dad has been in so much pain and having trouble walking. He went back to the VA and asked for wegovy. They blew him off and sent him home with a diet pamplet. So here we are.

I posted this in another thread, but I actually look at/entertain jobs at the VA; like a challenge/fight...

Anyway, 99% of the jobs the VA advertises are "internal" announcements. What "internal" means in the .gov world is, only VA employees can apply. How do you fill vacancies from within and still not be short-staffed? Only government can be that inept/stupid...

My Dad made it out of ICU and went to a nursing rehabilitation facility. It seems nice and the VA is covering 3 weeks. I want to help be his squeaky wheel to ask for a second opinion on his back surgery and find out why he hasn't been given epidurals to manage his pain. I would like to find out what else he is eligible for. I was told he should be eligible for someone to come and clean 6 hrs a week. I have a POA and a healthcare surrogate statement. Do I just walk into the VA hospital with a copy of his VA card and ask for a case worker?
